"Family Days in Action"
|
The Port Orange Family Days Community Trust was created by the merger of two community organizations dedicated to assuring that the linkage between the community and those who call it home not be lost in today's fast-paced society. The mission statement of the combined organization calls for it to "foster planning, funding and administration for programs and activities that strengthen family lives, individual values and potential and community and civic responsibility." Its vision is to create and maintain "shared values and opportunities for interactions that generate a lasting sense of family for the residents of Port Orange and those who work and visit in the community."
Family Days, the initial event fostered by the all-volunteer group, has grown from an initial attendance of 15,000 in 1996 to well over 50,000 today. Additional core events added over the years include recognition of the Person of the Year; Movies Under the Stars at the Parker Amphitheater in City Center, and Kidz Dayz in the Spring to provide a fun time bringing together youngsters and their families.
All these, and more, are made possible by the sponsors that provide a funding backbone which is fleshed out by volunteers and with the splendid support of the City of Port Orange, led by its elected officials and administrative staff. We are proud to list on this site the major sponsors who have enabled the organization to grow and to contribute to the Community.
We are proud to include, too, a list of some of the contributions made, not by this organization, but by the people and friends of Port Orange who have taken part in our activities. Port Orange Family Days Community Trust is, in the finest sense of term, a Community Enterprise.
That enterprise is led by a dedicated Board of Directors, shown below, which meets regularly to plan and coordinate events and assess how best the Trust can be a useful part of the fabric of the community. They seek and welcome the participation of all who want to assure a "family friendly" future for Port Orange. |
